This is a photo of a happy family..I wonder if this is their house?..or are they just visiting.  I will guess just visiting the country folk who live in the log cabin.

I think this may be from the 1940’s.  That is a different kind of hat that the Mrs is wearing.

This is a photo from the Antique Shop in Detroit Lakes Minnesota.

Looks like a whole bunch of girls with ribbons in their hair and one little boy..maybe two..that little one in the center might be a boy. It seems that most of these children have their hair parted down the center..so that is not a clue for the gender of the smallest child.

This photograph looks like it was taken sometime around 1900-1910.

This is a photo of my dad and Earl 11 years, Jim 9 years Dean 7 years and Marlyn at 5 years. The picture was taken around 1942, about the time our mother passed away. It was taken in the barn door that my dad Harry and uncle Elmer farmed. the farm is south of Dassel Mn. on the east shore of Pigeon lake

This may be a four generation photo.  No one looks real happy, not even the child with the kitten. This photo was more than likely taken in the late 1920’s or 1930’s.

We have the same family..again. It looks to be early spring sometime around 1910. Gather part of the family and have them sit on a bunch of rocks. 

The same Grandma on the left.  Perhaps with two of her daughters this time…or one daughter and one daughter in law. 

Now it is the boys turn..they are not doing real well controlling that little girl.

I purchased a number of photos at the Antique Shop in Park Rapids, they are all the same family.  I believe one of the family members may have been a photographer.  They were an upper class family.

I think we have a Grandma and her daughter and grandchildren. Two boys and a little girl.  We have seen this family before..I have shown at least two other photos.

This is a photo from the Antique Shop in Solway.  It is a CdV.

Another pioneer family, this time with a baby. I wonder what is tied around the gals waist..a hat or some type of purse?

The photographer is Leo. Anschuetz of Boscobel, Wisconsin.  I found that he was a photographer there in 1870.  So that is the year we will pick for this CdV also.

This dress is an example of the more common classes clothing - solid in the middle class. Not fancy but with some of the features of the upper classes.

It is a Velox Postcard from 1907 to 1914. They were a very handsome couple.

I just came back from a short trip to Ohio, where I stole a few minutes to go to one of my favorite little antique malls.  It's very small, but is PACKED with stuff from probably over fifty dealers.  There, I picked up four more vintage group photos.  Two of them had names on the back, and another was so interesting, I thought your readers would enjoy the mystery of it.

It's a photo of a family of thirteen -- Mother, father, nine sons, and two daughters.  There are no location stamps for a studio, and no notes of any sort on the back.  However, there are some pencil marks on the FRONT of the photo.  Someone went through and labeled their family members.  With few exceptions -- Dan, Will, Mother, Henry, Ed, Al, and Mary -- there is nothing but an initial.  The only lead -- and I figured only Iggy or Abra would be able to dig deeper -- was an additional written name under Mary's photo.  Could VOLSK be a married name?

I found it curious that initials were used for identification..and that Mother was written..but not Father..and Henry was written in a totally different hand and I am positive that is Dan..three times Dan!

This is a foreign CdV that I purchased at an Antique Shop in Detroit lakes, Minnesota.

Nine guesses why I purchased this card?  I believe that these children are..age nine or ten all the way on down.  The little girl sitting down holding her brother or sister seems to be the oldest. 
 
This is the back of the CdV.  Stavanger is a city in Norway. Perhaps this photo was taken in 1891, or perhaps the photographer established his shop in 1891.

Børre (Børe) Mathias Norland. Born in Stavanger 30.12.1855, died 23.09.1920. Son of Sivert Sivertsen (1813-80) and Martha Gundersen (1824-1913), married l) with Guriana Blom, 3 sons, 2) with Rakel Johanne (23.12.1866-27.12.1948), 17 children.


Anonymous update:
"Sølvmedalje Skien 1891" means that he was awarded a silver medal at "Den almindelige Norske landsutstilling i Skien 1891" (sign) (the general Norwegian countrywide exhibition in Skien). Skien is a town in southeast Norway.

I guess it is likely that the photo was taken later then 1891.

I purchased this photo at the Antique Shop in Park Rapids, Minnesota. 

I get the impression that this is a family.  Perhaps the mother was a serving maid and her children were house boys? What do you think? Or did she like white gloves and white trim?

She is most definitely not the maid. :-) That is a beautiful example of an Edwardian ladies gown. It's technically from 1900-1918, but this dress is in the mid-period and best associated with the Titanic era fashions. You could probably date this 1910-1913.

The photographer was AM Marton of Bloomington, ILLS.  The photo was more than likely taken right around 1897.  I say that because of the frills on the ladies dress and the high collar.

Ooh, I am so happy this photo has been reconnected with family. Although I have been given the credit, and while it may appear I solved this on my own, this is really not the case. A great deal of the credit goes to those responses about the Italian wording that led me to search where I did. Had I not had that information, I wouldn't have had some of the 'terms' I tried in the search engines to find these three children. So, it is important when you have a clue or inkling about a photo, no matter how small it may appear, you put it in the comments, because it really helps piece the puzzle together!! It takes all of us! 

Now that the suspense has been lifted, here are the rest of the details. I extracted much of the identifying information of the living, without removing the pieces about the photo subjects.

When I found the match to this photo, every part of the puzzle appeared to fit. I first found the family in the 1930 census (as I was about to call it quits—they were on the very last page I was going through--I felt as though I hit the jackpot). I built on the information with other records once I had a last name. Here goes:

The 1930 census lists Joseph Pepi, an Italian immigrant(arriving 1913), living in a rented home ($20 month), age 38, unable to read, write, or speak English. He works as a fur dresser at a tannery. He was married at age 27 to Annie, another Italian immigrant who arrived in 1920; in 1930 she is 32 (married at 22), so I assume she married almost immediately after arrival--perhaps it was an arranged marriage. She can't read or write, but does speak English. Hilda(age 8) and Albert(age5) are both in school and can read and write. Gloria is 23 months old. 

Using a combination of California birth, marriage, and death records, as well as military records, I have determined that Joseph was born Jan or June 2 1892. His full name was Guiseppe, his mother's maiden name was Barsi. He died August 21, 1963. His wife's full name was Nella S. Ramoni (not sure why it is Annie in the census, unless perhaps it is Annella). Her mother's maiden name was Magnani, she was born April 11, 1898, and died March 21st, 1963. It is quite plausible Guiseppe/Joseph had at least one more brother in California, as Fortunato Pepi was born in 1884 and his mother's maiden name was also Barsi. 

Joseph Pepi registered for the WWI draft while still single. He was tall and medium build. brown eyes, black hair. He was employed by (?) Schroeder, as a fur dresser. He was born in Pia Gai Luuca Italy. 

Hilda Francesca was born 10/4/1921 and died 8/9/1984 in San Francisco. She was married to Russell William Spadoni (born 8/21/1920, died 3/23/1969). They had at least one daughter who had 2 children(although I believe the response to the photo indicates there was more than one child). 

Albert L. Pepi was born March 17 (?) 1925. He enlisted in the army during WWII (June 12, 1943). He married Lorraine Lepiane, born in 1926. They had at least two children, & several grandchildren. Albert L. Pepi died in 1993 in Gardenville, Nevada. It is possible his wife is still alive.

I didn’t search on Gloria, because at that time, I had enough information for contacts. Perhaps Hilda's family can fill us in on Gloria a little more! As always, this is just a small snapshot of this family and I am sure there are many more descendants then I have found.

I have searched a whole year for Christmas Photos..they were few and far between this year.  I had to settle for Christmas Greetings.  This is a Real Photo Postcard.

Grandfather with new grandchild and daughter..most likely.

Best Christmas Wishes from the parties on the other side..from Mr. ( written in a different hand)   It is addressed to Mrs and Mr S. Gunderson City.

It was sent from Lake Mills, Iowa in December of 1911.  There used to be a stamp but someone removed it.. it is a Velox Real Photo Postcard..this particular postcard paper was used from 1907 to 1914.

The photo today is a young family with two little girls, they are close together in age..they might even be twins.  I think this photo was probably taken in the late 1890’s because of the poufy sleeves on the dresses.  This is a cabinet card, and the dark green color card was popular in the 1890’s.

The photographer is A. Joyce Jr. of Housatonic, Mass.  This is another of Pam’s photos.

This must be a family.. Father and Mother and child. We have many extremes here between the mothers many finger waves and that one “out of place” pin curl ( it must have been very in fashion) and the little girls haircut with the lopped off bangs. The Mothers flapper style dress with a single string of pearls..and the little girls bared shoulders in some kind of frothy creation, which I see as seafoam green..because I see the little girl as a red head. What do you see?

This is a photo with no markings other than the photographer who was Chris Raven of Wadena, Minnesota.  He was in business from 1912 to 1914, and then during 1918 and 1922.  I will pick the 1922 date for this photograph, I believe it is a good fit for the 1920’s.  Photographers often moved from place to place..at least in Minnesota. Apparently photography was a hard business to become established in, but these young men and women kept trying.  I purchased this photo in an Antique Shop in Royalton, Minnesota.

Two ladies..perhaps a mother,  daughter and grandchild sharing a moment. They are sitting on logs.  The wagon in the background has two small children.  There is a sign on the tree but I cannot read it.  This photo is probably from around 1910 from the length of the dresses that the ladies were wearing.
