Well these are our last two photos of this series of wedding photos.   This photo is from the Antique Shop in Perham Minnesota.

I believe that this photo is from 1967 or 1968.

 

This last photo was taken in December of 1969. My husband and I were very young..I was just barely eighteen.  We celebrated our 41st anniversary last December.  We have been best friends for over two thirds of our lives.

This is a photo that I purchased at a garage sale.

I believe that this photo is from sometime around 1949 or 1950.

My Mother wore a similar dress and her train was twirled around the front also.

This is my parents wedding photograph, they got married in 1950.  Last October they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. We had lunch with pulled pork sandwiches, homemade potato salad and lots of other salads and cake and coffee at the church, both of my brothers and my sister were able to attend. It was a lovely party and the church social hall was packed with friends and relatives.

This is a photo from the late 1940’s or early 1950’s.  I purchased this photo at the second Antique Shop in Dorset Minnesota.

A lovely couple, the bride in a satin dress with a beautiful bouquet with lots of ribbons and the groom with a wild tie. They seem very happy!

This is a photograph from the Antique Shop in Perham Minnesota.

I saw this photo an snatched it right up..it was a dollar!  A perfect late 1940’s perhaps even early 1950’s bride.  An Ivory or white satin dress with a sweetheart neckline and long sleeves.  You cannot see the end of the sleeves near her hands…I wonder did they come to a point to showcase her hands? The beautiful flowers are in the way.  She wore a single strand of pearls. 

I think she looks very hollywoodish! (Is that a word?)

This is a photo from the Antique Shop in Motley that sells ice cream cones.  There are a couple of shops in Motley and a Flea Market.  It is a great little town for antiqueing.

This photo was taken by Hanapel of Tracy Minnesota.  The flap on the folder says Leona’s cousin Delores Danielowski and Chuck Lorenz. The beautiful bride is wearing a sensible suit and so is the groom.

I struck out on the photographer.  But I did find Charles Christopher Lorenz born Jan 31, 1925 and died February 1982 in Burlington, Wisconsin.  He was married to Delores Danielowski and they had three children Rebecca, Charles and Rodney.  Their son Charles was born in 1948 so I would think that they were married in 1946 or 1947.   What is way cool about this search..even though I ran into dead ends this family can trace their roots all the way back to 1715 in Germany with a Heinrich Lorenz..awesome!!

Perhaps Iggy or Abra can work some of their magic to get this photo back home.

Deloris was born August 6, 1923 & died Oct. 23 2009. According to the MOMS (Minnesota Official Marriage System), Deloris Lorraine Danielowski and Charles Christopher Lorenz were married 4/6/1947 in Redwood County MN.

This is a snapshot from the Antique Shop in Detroit Lakes Minnesota.
 
During the early 1940’s when we were thrust into WWII many a GI and his gal tied the knot before he went overseas.  These impromptu weddings took only a few days to plan.  It would not have been proper to have a huge fancy wedding when there was so much suffering going on in the world.  The war ended in 1944 (edited to 1945), so I would say that this wedding took place between 1940 and 1945. The bride and groom are dressed sensibly and have good clothes on and I am sure it was a special day.

This is a photo from the Antique Shop in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.  It is a great place to shop.
I am not quite sure of the Photographers name, Fritsett or Fritsett and the year is 29. The bridal bouquet is huge! I can almost see the brides knees…almost.
I do have another clue ..
1929 is written in pencil.  The names are Ernest?? or Everett??? Huske-Duske-Durke?? + Elsie ?? Wedding.
  Perhaps someone can see something I cannot.

Update from Abra:
I checked the Minnesota Online marriage index & found Ernest F. Kuske wed Elsie C. Haase in Steele County MN on 9-18-1929. I am thinking this may be your bride & groom. Furthermore, I found a few photographers with the last name Fritsch, which is what I believe the photographer’s name is, specifically Henry Fritsch, who operated in MN in the 1900’s, 1920’s, 1930’s, & 1950s. He owned a studio in Owatonna, MN(Steele Co). This all fits together.
I found Ernie & Elsie in the 1930 census in Polk Co. Wisconsin. They were age 42 & 35 (so 41 & 34 when they married), so that explains why they look old—that was old back then! I believe they had one daughter, according to a family census record. I have some other last names of living people(their daughter & grandchildren), but it will take a little more work to get the first names. They lived in Wisconsin, and their daughter in Ohio, so it is not as easy for me to access those records, as those states don’t have as much publically available. ~Abra


Looking at the 1930 census details, it states this was the first marriage for Ernest & Elsie, who were 41 & 35 when they married. While Ernest was from Polk Co. Wisconsin, Elsie grew up in/around Owatonna. I have found details of their daughter & grandchildren, but there are numerous people with the same first & last name, so some sifting will be necessary. I believe Ernest's & Elsie's daughter may be alive, and all four grandchildren. ~Abra

This is a photo from the second Antique Shop in Dorset Minnesota. 

A.R. Scherling was at 113 Broadway in Fargo North Dakota from 1925 to 1929. The boutonnieres were still being worn stem up, and I imagine the groom had red hair.  The bride is lovely in her short hair “do” and I imagine her dress is a lacy creation off white in color..and the roses look pink to me.

This is a photograph from the Antique Shop in Park Rapids Minnesota.
The women are looking one way and the men the other, and no one is really smiling.  The brides dress is much the style of the 1920’s, it looks like she has her dancing shoes on too.

Frank and Louise appear to be from St Cloud, Stearns, Minnesota. The 1930 US census lists them as follows: Frank (b. abt 1901) and Louise (b. abt 1902) with four children, Marlan (spelling?) F. Stang (1924), Geraldine M. Stang (1925), Melvin E. Stang (28-March-1926 d. 22-Feb-1992), and Mary Lou M. Stang (1928).


Update from Abra:
I found the record of Frank Stang & Louise Hoffmann, married May 8, 1923, in Stearns County, MN. Louise was born in 1902 in St. Joseph & died in 1994 in Stearns County. This is the county I grew up in, and while both the Stang & Hoffmann names are common in my home area, as well as many of the names of the children & grandchildren, I do not know any of them.

This is the rest of the wedding party from yesterdays photo.  The same photographer but this photo was in a different folder.

Now we can see the brides entire dress, which seems to have a row of ruffles in the front, are they attached to the dress or part of a filmy thin layer of see through fabric..I just cannot figure it out.  At any rate..we have  wedding party that looks happy.

This is another photo from the Antique Shop in Park Rapids.  I will show you the photo of the entire wedding party tomorrow.  Today we have the bride and the groom.

I think that this wedding took place right around 1918.  The photographer was Chris Raven of Wadena Minnesota.  He was in business there from 1912 to 1914, 1918 and 1922.  So those are the choices.  I do not think that this dress says 1922 so I chose 1918.

This is another unmarked photo.  The photographer was J. Tessman.  His full name is Julius and he was in Wadena Minnesota in the year 1914 so that is the date we will pick for this photo.

I believe that this photo was taken sometime around 1914.

My Husband has another Great Uncle and Aunt that were married about the same time.

This photo was taken January 01, 1914.  Great Aunt Emma and the bride above had very similar taste in wedding bonnets or veils. Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)

This is another photo from the Antique Shop in Park Rapids, Minnesota.
The photographer is W. Rope (Corrected to W.R.Opie) from Langdon, North Dakota.  I could not find any info about the photographer.

I will pick 1911 for the date of this photo, simply because my husbands Great Uncle and Aunt were married in 1911 and their hairstyles and clothing are very similar.

Here is Great Aunt Mae and Great Uncle Franks Wedding photo. June 29th 1911. They had no children, my husband inherited their wedding photograph.  They are not “forgotten”..Frank was a Barber and Mae was a School Teacher.

The photographer's name is William R. Opie. He was in Langdon, ND in 1910 according to the US census for that year.
Mr. William Opie is shown as immigrating from England in 1886, living briefly in Ely, MN in 1900 and settling in Langdon by 1910. He's bio is in the "1889-1980 Langdon, ND centenial." He apparently specialized in wedding pictures (imagine that!)

This is a photo from the Antique Shop in Park Rapids, Minnesota. ( My favorite Antique Shop will be closing soon, Linda is selling off her inventory and has the building up for sale, I have spent many hours in her shop and I will miss going there.)

Wilkins was the photographer, he was in and out of business in Park Rapids from 1904 to 1906 often with a partner.

I think that this may have been a double wedding.  The dresses are almost the same (the brides dress has lacy sleeves), and the corsages and boutonnieres are the same.  The men have different ties.  I can imagine them posing for this photo and the bride handing off the wedding bonnet to her bridesmaid for her photo.  Furthermore I think that the bride and the groomsman are brother and sister and the groom and the bridesmaid are brother and sister. ( It might just be my imagination.)

The women's dresses have the “pigeon breasted look” that was popular from 1900 to 1910.

This is a photo from the Antique Shop in Royalton, Minnesota.

This was a strange shaped photograph, it must have had a very special frame at one time.  I believe that this photo is from 1900 to 1905.  The bride has the very fashionable dangling flowers and green in her wedding bonnet.  Her dress has “the pigeon breasted look”.  In my opinion this is the most handsome Groom we have seen so far:)

This was the very first wedding photo that I purchased that had these dangly flowers and greens and it will be the last photo of wedding bonnets with dangly flowers and greens this month. Apparently it went out of fashion sometime around 1905.

Photo Number 563

This is a photograph from the Antique Shop in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.  I laughed out loud when I saw it, and could not resist buying it. This photo was in amongst a whole group of photos that were haphazardly cut out of their original framing or matting, any photographer info that was on the cardstock was cut away.

This bride took the dangly greens on her wedding bonnet to a whole new level.  She is carrying roses tied with a huge white ribbon and his boutonniere matches her bouquet.  Her dress is white, with some ornate beadwork along the bottom. The bodice of the dress has the “pigeon breast puffed out look” that was popular from 1900 to around 1910.

The groom looks quite dapper. I am sure his hair style and his moustache were quite fashionable in his day.  The tips of his shoes are very shiny.  His bow tie is really small.

The couple is posing on a wild animal hide..I would guess it is a wolf.

This is a cabinet card from the third Antique Shop in Dorset, Minnesota. 

T.J. Burfield was a photographer in Waconia, Minnesota in 1898 and 1899 according to the database at the Minnesota Historical Society.  I am a frequent visitor to their website to find info on photographers.

Would you look at that bouquet of flowers..it is huge.  I can see some type of Mums and Hydrangea..which suggest to me that this couple was married in early September, because that is when Mums and Hydrangeas would be blooming nicely in Minnesota. They are wearing matching corsages, Gardenias maybe?

The brides dress is not white. I always like to imagine these dresses in color. (I think this one is pale green.) The beautiful lace trim is white. Her bonnet seems to have some flowers in it, she must not have liked the dangly greens and flowers in her wedding bonnet that was so popular during this time period.

This is a Cabinet Card from the Hirsch Brothers in Evansville, Minnesota. They were in that city in 1895. The bride and groom have matching corsages.  The bride is wearing a black gown with very large sleeves. They look to be on some type of wild animal rug..perhaps a wolf or deer hide.

This is a Cabinet Card from the antique shop in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.
O E Flaten expanded his business from Moorhead to Halstad and Lake Park Minnesota in the years 1894 and 1895.

We finally had a white or very light colored dress.  I think it was most likely white, which means that the bride may have come from a wealthy family. ( White dresses got dirty especially along the bottom, so this dress would have only been worn a few times.)  The dress has large sleeves with wings which were fashionable during 1895.   They both have corsages and the bride is wearing the wedding bonnet with dangling flowers and greens. There is a bit of a shadow behind the grooms left leg..it looks like a posing stand to me. The bride is showing off her ring.

They may have been really happy.  It is hard to tell, having your photograph taken was a big (quite serious) event.   They had to remain motionless during the exposure time for the photograph.  That could have been up to a minute or more.  Smiles were hard to hold for a minute, and many people lacked dental care..so dazzling smiles were not the norm.

Photo Number 559

This is the same photographer as yesterday and even the same backdrop for the photograph.  This is another cabinet card from the Antique Shop in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

This time the groom is seated instead of standing.  The cards have the same imprint and the wedding fashions are very similar.  The wedding bonnet has the flowers and the trailing greens, however this bonnet has a really large hem, perhaps she didn’t want it trailing behind her.  I find it curious that his tie is ever so small and that the photographer was going to use the posing stand and forgot it behind the chair. The happy couple also has matching corsages.

I think this photo is from the mid 1890’s.

** Posing stands were wooden stands that would help the person hold a pose very still for an extended length of time.  Many times a stiff very formal look is obtained with the posing stands..I suspect that the groom in yesterdays photo had a stand behind him:)

This is a cabinet card from the Antique Shop in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

We still have the wedding bonnet with it’s tendril of greenery and or flowers.  Today we have a different color dress. Was it green or blue gray? It has some ruching on the bodice and beautiful lace, and she is showing off her ring..too bad she didn’t grab his arm!  She looks very young.

The photographer was O E Flaten, he came to Moorhead Minnesota in 1880 and opened up a photography studio with his brother Gilbert E Flaten.  His brother went over to Fargo in 1888 or 1889.  Both of the Flaten boys were prolific photographers.

I think that this photo was taken in the mid 1890’s (1894, 1895, 1896).

This is a cabinet card that I purchased at the Antique shop in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. I am not entirely sure how to date this photo, I think that it is from 1895 to 1900.  The photographer is Meddaugh either Robert or Isaac (father and son)they were in Lead, SD from 1862 to 1926.

The bride has a beautiful wedding bonnet and her dress has lots of fru fru trims on the front.  The sleeves of her dress are quite large, reminiscent of the fashions around 1895.  The groom is unremarkable ..except for his large white bow tie.

This is a cabinet card from the Third Antique Shop in Dorset. This card has scalloped edges, they were popular in the 1890’s.

The bride has a dark dress, and what looks to be a light colored ribbon near the neckline of her dress.  She has a wedding bonnet with flowers and some are trailing down her left shoulder.  The groom seems relaxed.

O F Alldrin was a photographer in Fergus Falls, Minnesota from 1894 to 1895.

This is a cabinet card that I purchased in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

This couple has matching corsages:) We have another dark dress with beautiful trim and a wedding bonnet adorned with trailing leaves and flowers. The groom seems short, or perhaps the bride was tall.  This is a photo from the Flaten brother Gilbert E that worked with his brother Ole over in Moorhead in the early 1880’s.  He moved over to Fargo in 1888.

This is the back of the cabinet card.  Gilbert E Flaten was at 506 Front Street from late 1888 or 1889 and then at 722 Front Street from 1890 to 1893. ( In 1893 to 1895 he was at 67 Broadway).  So I can date this photo 1888 to 1893.  I would think that the brides dress looks more 1893 with the large puffy sleeves.  She is showing off her ring in the photo.

This is a wedding photo from the Antique Shop in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. It is a cabinet card.

Grossfield was only in Rushford, Minnesota in the years 1884 and 1885.  So those are the years we will pick for these photos. The bride has chosen a wedding bonnet and it seems to have some sort of tendrils from the piece on top of her head flowing on her left shoulder.  The wedding bonnet seems almost train like.  This dress could have had a bustle..I can almost see one back there but it may just be the pleats in her dress. I wonder what color her dress was..I am seeing a soft chocolate brown..trimmed in black velvet.. how about you?    The groom just has his top button buttoned..I have read that this is common in the late 1870’s to the early 1880’s.  So it very well could be a photo from 1884 or 1885.

It is also interesting to note that her ring is on the right hand but the wrong finger..perhaps it was too large.

This is a wedding photo from the Antique Shop in Solway, Minnesota.

It is a CdV or Cartes d’ visite. The bride is wearing a dark dress and a bonnet veil.  Her dress appears to me to be one of those dresses that had a bustle.  Possibly from the Natural Form Bustle period of 1877 to 1882.  The gentleman has only the top button of his coat buttoned, so that would indicate late 1870’s to early 1880’s.
The photographer was JR Halvorsen of St. Ansgar Iowa.

I have seen dresses similar to this one on the fashion plates from Goodey's. The bodice is long in the cuiarass shape and the skirts straight. I suspect this is about 1880 or 1881. It would be Natural Form, but there was no bustle. The Natural Form movement was ostensibly to show the natural shape of a woman and was considered scandalous by some. It rejected the artificial shape of the bustle. But with all the corsetry underneath, there was no way a woman's natural form would be seen, lol.

I wasn’t quite sure how to present these wedding photos.  Since I am a person that likes order and sequence, I decided to present them in chronological order.  I probably won’t get them all correct…but close.

This is a CdV that I purchased in the Antique Shop in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. 

I believe this photo is from the 1880’s.  I didn’t think it was a wedding photo at first, then I noticed the flowers in her hair. I imagine her dress as a butterscotch color with white trim, what do you see?  I love all her bows and buttons.

There are no clues who this couple is, or where they posed for the photo.

Photo Number 551

Well this is a group photo to begin a month long series of wedding photographs.  What better month to do that in than June.  I was not married in June, but both of my daughters were.

Wedding dresses were often black or dark colors from the years 1880 to 1900.  Many women chose a dark colored dress, it could be worn again, and it wouldn’t show the dirt.  She may wear a special wedding bonnet (headpiece and veil) as a keepsake of her special day, but her dress was practical.   I read someplace that she would wear the dress for special occasions and gatherings throughout the first year, just so all her friends could see it again.

I have had a blast collecting all these old wedding photos, I have more than plenty for the month of June, with a few left over.  This photo came from the Antique Shop in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. I think it may be from around 1900.
