This is a CdV or Cartes-de-visite. They were used as calling cards, when you went to visit someone you left them a card. They measure 2 1/2 inches by 4 inches. They were used from 1850 to 1900.
This lovely lady had her photo taken in Lake City, Minnesota at the Studio of Nelson and Morgeneier in 1882 or 1883, those were the years that W. E. Nelson was a photographer. Morgeneier had many partnerships in his photographic adventures. There is no other identification on this photo..so she is yet another lovely unknown.
