Photo Number 408

I have a few different kinds of photos for a few days..cleaning up some files..getting ready for the New Year.

Squaw Lake Minnesota This is a little town in Itasca County..that had a population of 99 in the 2000 census.  It’s claim to fame is “The Avenue of the Pines.”  This is a real photo postcard. Probably from the 1930’s.

Squaw Lake Minnesota

The sign says “Smokers Be Careful” ..the rest of it is hard to read but I bet that it says Chippewa National Forest under the emblem.

I cannot recall that I have ever been on this road..if I was ..it was a long time ago.  This may be a great road trip for next summer..it is about a two hour drive from where we live. I bought this card in an Antique Shop near Laporte, Minnesota.

Photo Number 294

Smokey Bear International Falls Mn
Today we have a scenery photo.  This is a statue that I had not seen before but I came home and Googled Smokey the Bear and Statue.  I got this photo in an Antique Shop.
This is a 26 foot tall statue of Smokey Bear.  It is in International Falls, Minnesota ( way UP North..it is across the border from Canada).  The statue was erected in 1953 as part of the Keep Minnesota Green Project in Koochiching County.

Photo Number 229

I have exhausted my supply of wedding photos, but I do have this one to share..a photo of "THE" place to go on a honeymoon.  Niagara Falls, at least I think it is Niagara Falls.( Thanks to Abra we now know it is Shoshone Falls Near Twin Falls, Idaho! )  I have never been there. Perhaps some of my readers have been?  This photo was probably taken in the late 1940's or early 1950's.  Somehow, I think this is a family photo and not a newlywed photo.  Note the casual bobby socks and the jean roll on the gal to the left!
