A young boy in knickers.
Gunnar Aarstad CdV DL Antiques back
Joh. Froling?  Fotograf  Brogadon ( edited to Brogaden) 8, Kristiania
and a name Gunnar Aarstad
So this is another CdV from Oslo Norway. Sometime after 1877.

Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)

Update from Iggy:
This may be the Son or Grandson of Berte Karina Aarstad who was featured in Photo 626

Dr Jeff says Brogaden 8 is Bridge Street 8

Update from Anonymous:
Photographer: John Frøling (1865-1932). Born and trained in Sweden, came to Christiania in 1884. Started his company in Brogaden 8 in 1895, used a cheap "rubber stamp" with "Joh. Frøling" the first years. So the photo should be from after 1895, but not much.

Photo Number 673

This is a photo from the Antique Shop in Park Rapids that is owned by my friend Linda.  She had her shop for sale, she had a huge sale, and closed for a couple of months. The shop did not sell so she is still in business. The place has more shelves now and the entire place has been cleaned and the floors have been redone.  She saves old photos for me to look at.  It is one of my favorite places to visit.

This is Dickie at Shelter Bay.

Dickie Shelter Bay PR Antiques

Shelter Bay is more than likely the name of a resort in Wisconsin or Michigan..or the name of a town in Washington.  Wherever  Shelter Bay was the grass was very tall.  Poor little Dickie looks lost in the grass.

Photo Number 672

This is a CdV that I purchased at the Royalton Minnesota Antique Shop.

Curtis S Ross lewiston RAS

The photographer was Curtis & Ross, Lewiston…unknown state.

I think this looks like a little boy, because of the striped stockings.

Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)

I am done going into work at the Historical Museum for the winter, the building is not heated.  I will work part time a few hours a month from home.

I have finally had some extra time to go through some of my photo files again.   I found that I had overlooked a name.  So Photo Number 665 has a name!  So far it is the only error I have found.  I hate to use a photo twice because Iggy will notice.  I usually move the photo into a used file folder..but sometimes I get interrupted or in a hurry..so doubling up is a possibility..as well as an omissions..I am not perfect! :)

Photo Number 670

This is a photo from the Antique Shop in Detroit Lakes Minnesota.
Baby in long gown DL Antiques
Such a big chair for such a little baby, notice Mom is “at hand”. The gown shows a least two layers.  These christening gowns were often sewn from the Mothers petticoats to welcome her new baby. If you were a woman of means you had fancy petticoats.

Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)

whowerethey added this:
In earlier times the gowns were long (not this long though) because the baby could not crawl anyway, and when baby started to crawl, it hindered their ability to go very far. Weird, but it was a way to keep them out of trouble. Also, the lower class a woman was, the more likely the baby clothes were made from her petticoats. The more wealth, the more likely the child would be dressed in new gowns or hand me downs that had been new when first used. A middle to upper class woman spent her "confinement" making baby clothing. The confinement period began when her pregnancy started to show and ended when the baby was between 2-4 months old.

Photo Number 669

This is a photo from the Antique Shop in Dorset.

unknown kids Fluerotone Doprset Antiques

The photograph was taken by Fluoretone Portrait Studios in St. Paul and Minneapolis.

I believe that this photo was most likely taken in the 1940’s.  The little boy has two tones oxfords on and his little socks have some kind of pattern around the top.  The little girls dress looks to be velvet, her socks are plain but her little shoes appear to have a pattern.  I like the bow in her hair, she looks a little impish!

Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)

This is a real photo postcard from the Antique Shop in Royalton Minnesota.
Forest Earl Postcard RAS
I am not sure why only a small part of the postcard was used.

This is a a Cabinet Card. The older children surround their little sister in the chair.

scan0020 copy

P.H. Tallman was a photographer from Blooming Prairie, Minnesota. He was in that area from 1898 to 1900 and then again in 1906.

On a side note, Blooming Prairie was named by a railroad executives wife after she saw all the wooden shacks that made up the settlement.  Blooming Prairie is located in South Eastern Minnesota.

Photo Number 666

How about looking at some kids in chairs this week.

Two little gals in a chair RAS

These two little ones made me smile, I bet their Grandmother displayed this photo proudly.  It looks like two little girls to me.  This is a photo that I got down at the Royalton Minnesota Antique Shop.

Can you imagine using a button hook to “do up” the shoes on these more than likely squirmy children?  This photo was probably taken right around 1900 to 1910.

Phila Emma Bishop 1928 Front of folder DL
Christmas 1928  Phila Emma Bishop.
I have heard this name before..Bishop from North Dakota…they were very successful wealthy farmers.

This childs mother ( Grandmother?) was most likely Emma Strehlow Bishop and her father (Grandfather?) J R Bishop.

The photo yesterday may have been her grandfather. ( Great Grandfather)

Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)

Photo Number 650

This is a CdV from the antique shop in Detroit Lakes Minnesota.

Young girl plaid dress front CdV DL Antiques

A young girl in a plaid dress..who may have just graduated from school..perhaps the sixth grade?  She doesn’t look old enough to me to be in the eighth grade.

Young girl plaid dress back

Adam Heeb was at 651 8th Street in Milwaukee in 1889 and 1890..so this photo was most likely taken before that time.

I say that because it is a CdV and not a Cabinet Card and I bet that this dress has a bustle…

Photo Number 638

This is a photo that I purchased at the Antique Shop in Detroit Lakes Minnesota.
Little girl DL
The photo is by a JW( edited to JA) Tweit (??) of Litchville North Dakota.

Her dress is too large, her sleeves are uneven and those bows are not taming that hair.  She made me smile..I hope you smiled too.

Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)

Update from Iggy on the photographer.

Photo Number 637

This is a photo from the Antique Shop in Detroit Lakes Minnesota.
Edwinea DL
A little girl with a great big bow in her hair.  She is a real cutie!
Edwinea back of photo
This is the back of the photo.  I think it says:
Edwinea Eckfeld Born May 18 1907 Age 6 years ( The photo must have been taken in 1913)
Daughter of Della Lehman, a cousin  Grandmother Strehlow’s sisters daughter.
There is a mark on the front of the photograph, I am unable to read it.
Edwinea DL
HHW something..I wonder if the photographer signed his photos in pencil.

Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)

On a side note..I featured Photo Number 134 of Eugenia Strehlow Meilicke and her family..do you suppose her Mother was Grandmother Strehlow?  Just a thought, I did get the photos at the same antique shop??

Update from Iggy:
Edwinea Eckfeld was born on May 18 1907 in Columbia Township, Tuscola County, Michigan and died on 28 Feb 1996 in Port Huron, St. Clair County, Michigan. She was married to Floyd Thomas King (28 Jan 1908-16 Jul 1973).

She attended the Central State Teachers College (Class of 1929) and published "A study of the critical ideas of Sir Thomas Elyot" in 1932.

"In the regular 8th grade examination, Edwinea Eckfeld of Unionville received the highest standing of the 481 students who took the examination. Her standing was 96.6 per cent. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Eckfeld and a pupil of Miss Edna Stroud."

More from Iggy:
On Oct. 22, 1903, Edwin W. Eckfield (b. 1881 in Michigan) married Adella Lehman (b. 1880 in Wisconsin). The Bride's Parent's Names wer Henry and Mina Lehman (both b. 1838 in Germany) and they were living in Liberty Grove, Door, Wisconsin.

Here is the connection with Photo 134.

Adela Lehman's mother was "Mina Buchold" on a wedding record and "Minnie A Bucholz" in the census records (b. Sep 1837 in Germany)

Eugenia Stehlow's mother was "Liebegott Maria Buchholz" (b. Sep. 5, 1836 in Germany d. Oct. 3, 1901)

I would assume they were sisters.

Photo Number 636

This is a photo from the Antique Shop in Detroit Lakes Minnesota.

Group of kids DL

Looks like a whole bunch of girls with ribbons in their hair and one little boy..maybe two..that little one in the center might be a boy. It seems that most of these children have their hair parted down the center..so that is not a clue for the gender of the smallest child.

This photograph looks like it was taken sometime around 1900-1910.

Perhaps a sister and a brother in the 1920’s, maybe this was taken after church or some other important outing.

Photo Number 602

This is another photo from the Antique Shop in Park Rapids.

Brother and Sister

Siblings, perhaps a brother and a sister, one is caged and one is free.  Free to stick her hands into the holes in her knees.

This looks like a photo from the 1950’s.  My Mother used to hang dresses up in the doorway too after they were ironed.

A little boy I think. With personality!

Possibly a trio of photos to delight a Grandmother.

Car with doors

Now we have the little boy and a shadow of the picture taker. Perhaps someone can tell me the year of the car in the background and I will be able to date the photo..I am thinking 1940’s.  What are those kind of car doors called?

Photo Number 600

This is a cute photo..I called it “Stripes.”  She was in my original box of photos that I purchased in Park Rapids Minnesota..a long time ago.

Stripes She is all “matchy, matchy” with a bag and a tam or something similar on her head.  I imagine this to be a red/white stripe.

600 photos..hard to believe..but I still have more!  (This collecting old photos must be a sickness.)

Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)
