Foreign looking photo
I will let the reader decide where this photo was taken.  I admired the timber post construction of the building on the right. Very Scandinavian.

Update from anonymous:
The jewelry of the ladies are similar to what is often used on Norwegian folk costumes (bunad), but I'm no expert (I don't know what they use in Finland and Sweden).

Lady with lace foreign Grand Forks CdV
This is a CdV that I purchased at a quaint little Antique Mall in Grand Forks, North Dakota.  I love her hair, it is a style I wish I could pull off.  Her lace collar is stunning..there must be a special name for the lace?
Lady with lace foreign back Perhaps someone can translate for me?  I think it may be Norwegian.

Update from someone Anonymous:
Hamar is an inland city in the eastern part of Norway.

It seems some words may have disappeared?

Idas (?) Julekort = One dozen Christmas cards
smaa = small (?)
den hvide krave = the white collar
borttages = can be removed
saa det bliver mørkt = so that it becomes darker

(presumably about the collar of the dress)

Foreign Photo Cabinet Card Wadena Flea market
I get the impression that this family was headed to America..don’t know why..the lady seems to have traveling clothes on.  Was the gentleman a Captain of something..an airship?

Update From Iggy:
Kyllburg is indeed German. The town is located near the Belgium/Luxemburg border about 125 miles/ 230 km due west of Frankfurt am Main.

Update from Norkio:
The child has really poor posture and I wonder if that is what contributes to her looking like she has a belly on her. If she was older I'd speculate she was pregnant, but instead I suspect scoliosis or something that prevents her from standing up straight.

Also interesting is that her dress features a "pinner" apron, one that has the bib but no ties to go over the shoulder or around the neck. Her's may be sewn in place but traditionally they were pinned to the dress underneath. It's a very old style if this is circa 1910. The pinner was popular during the 1860s.

Photo Number 471

This week we will look at some foreign photos.
4 girls foreign photo Bemidji Antiques  This is a CdV or Cartes d’ visite or calling card. I purchased this card at an Antique Shop in Bemidji, Minnesota.

Sisters or friends?  This is a totally different type of photograph, with the girls being photographed in a stair step way and a unique way of highlighting the photo.

I think that this might be from Sweden..but I am not sure.  Input is always appreciated.

Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)

Update from crex:
Yes, it's from Sweden.

Update from Iggy:
Tranas, Sweden is in the south-central region, about 170 miles/275 km southwest of Stockholm.

Gottfrid Wahlgren worked in the town of Aneby in 1897, Tranås in 1898. I think he was born 25 aug. 1872 and died in Aneby.

Update on Diagonal Cards:
From Brett Payne
This style of card mount is very similar to those which were used for either the Pocket Kodak camera, produced from 1895, or the early Kodak Brownie series, produced from about 1900 onwards. I estimate a date of around 1895-1905 for this particular example.
